Tributes Pour In for the Reiners as Medical Examiner's Findings Remain Under Wraps.
Over a fortnight after the tragic deaths of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community continue to honor the pair.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he only now felt ready to post publicly about his deep grief.
"Enough time has elapsed that I can at last articulate my loss into words," shared Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced passing more hours together I understood this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor posted archival material from the movie, commenting that he doesn't recollect "a single day without laughter".
"The film is about affection, allegiance and giving. Values that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes continued.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, noting: "Asserting that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I remember you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Friend and Collaborator
In a different essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved being with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the lead role.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with his co-stars, and he grasped the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese noted.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Restricted
Recently, a Los Angeles superior court judge ruled to block the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A judicial mandate placed a restriction on the cases to restrict the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" associated with the active case.
The Medical Examiner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the outcome of murder, with a public database noting the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Response and Criticism
After the deaths, public individuals offered different comments.
Ex-President Donald Trump commented on the matter, offering controversial claims that were broadly criticized by many public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his perspective to the critics last week. Conversing on his podcast, Rogan characterized the remarks as "disturbing" and remarked they revealed a troubling absence of compassion.
Rogan ended by suggesting that an associate should have stepped in when the decision to speak on the death was made.
