The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
