Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolves.
Pereira was sacked on Sunday following the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League campaign.
Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.
The manager is currently at another club, which would pose a potential hurdle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.
However the ex- Luton manager - who made more than 100 of games for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the position.
The mid-career manager is said to have support from the Wolves directors as they start the process of appointing a fresh manager.
Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock appointment given he was released by Wolves in December last year.
The ex- West Ham United player is out of work which means the club would not be required to provide any buyout fee.
