McKenna's Stance on The Scottish Club

The Ipswich boss described the Glasgow giants as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the Premier League with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only a handful of victories last season as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in the Championship.

"I have not had any of those discussions," the London-born former Northern Ireland young player said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my concentration is this week.

"I have a unique job here at a special team. And we're at a crucial stage of the season. Anything outside of that hasn't touched my radar."

Background and Contractual Details

It has been suggested that McKenna would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"During youth, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about those. "It's unlikely everyone has to go around and declare what they used to be, but of course it's a really big football club."

The coach signed a fresh multi-year deal in 2024 and was asked about his alleged buyout clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he replied. "I don't know what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I approach this role like I'll be Ipswich manager forever. I know that's not always going to be the case, but I'll always give maximum effort as while I remain in position."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker played for the Hoops on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Wales forward is minded to finish the current global tournament campaign, a stance that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

Wales are presently third in their World Cup group behind leaders the Red Devils and runners-up Macedonia.

Victories over Liechtenstein and their rivals in next month would secure their position in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of making those, thanks to a productive European competition campaign, should they not end up Group J second place.

Considering his current position, the Wales manager, whose contract expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until after the play-offs at the minimum.
