Jurgen Klopp admits coming back to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club is something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure that included continental glory and the Premier League crown in 30 years, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured England's top flight in the previous campaign, but many fans who adore the manager would be thrilled by the notion of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to the podcast host: “I said I will never coach any other side on English soil. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, which suggests I might decide down the line, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on the specific conditions must arise to bring him back to the dugout, he revealed he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip interviews repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, however, dining out with the players enjoying conversation, is pleasant. Success was frequent thus frequently positive atmosphere around the place. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled for example.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, acknowledging his role due to the changes which secured the championship last term. The team has suffered four consecutive matches in every contest following significant transfers, though he denied the suggestion that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, incredible player. They have a strong well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international lost his life in a road accident alongside his brother recently.
“How do you replace such an individual? It’s not about his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the team environment absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A profound tragedy for the entire squad as well. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it to justify results though it's a fact. Being in that space which he filled completely. Dealing with that individually is not easy. Impossible.”
