Chief Executive Endorses Measure to Disclose Further Jeffrey Epstein Files Following Months of Pushback
Donald Trump announced on Wednesday night that he had approved the legislation overwhelmingly endorsed by American lawmakers that instructs the Department of Justice to make public more files concerning the convicted sex offender, the dead child sexual abuser.
The move comes after months of opposition from the president and his backers in the legislature that fractured his Maga base and generated conflicts with certain loyal followers.
The president had fought against disclosing the Epstein files, describing the matter a "fabrication" and railing against those who attempted to publish the documents public, notwithstanding pledging their release on the political campaign.
However he changed direction in the past few days after it become clear the House would approve the bill. The president commented: "There are no secrets".
The details are unknown what the justice department will disclose in response to the legislation – the bill details a host of various records that should be made public, but provides exceptions for specific records.
Trump Approves Bill to Compel Disclosure of More Jeffrey Epstein Documents
The bill mandates the top justice official to make public Epstein-related records publicly available "in an easily accessible digital format", covering all investigations into Epstein, his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, aircraft records and movement logs, people mentioned or identified in association with his illegal activities, institutions that were linked to his exploitation or economic systems, exemption arrangements and further court deals, organizational messages about legal actions, records of his confinement and passing, and particulars about potential document destruction.
The department will have one month to turn over the records. The measure includes some exceptions, encompassing deletions of confidential victim data or personal files, any descriptions of child sexual abuse, disclosures that would endanger active investigations or legal cases and depictions of death or exploitation.
