Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for questions to be raised about his future after another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant support from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager highlighted recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase like this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
